Steph Curry shared with reporters why he wanted to sign an extension with the Warriors before the season started.

The Golden State Warriors were able to get ahead of some potential distractions by inking superstar guard Steph Curry to a one-year contract extension. Now under contract through the 2026-27 season, Curry is more clearly tied to the Dubs future. While Curry’s future with Golden State was never a hotly contested talking point, the Warriors inability to return to championship contention over the past two seasons set the stage for some uncomfortable conversations if that continued in 2024-25. During his first media availability of the season last week, Curry was asked about the decision to extend his contract.

“No secret it’s always has been and still is a goal of mine to be a Warrior for life, to stay competitive throughout that process, and I know it’s kind of unheard of,” Curry said. “You know we’ve got a short list of guys who have been in that position. Honestly, the ability to kind of just let that be known with the decision to extend and not let that be a distraction or be a talking point all year long. No matter what really happens throughout this season, throughout next season, throughout the year after that. All my energy is spent on preparing myself to play at a very high level, to do my part as a part of this team to win, and everything else will reveal itself as time goes on. That’s kind of the way I want to approach it.”

It’s not surprising at this point to hear Curry reassert his commitment to the Warriors franchise and his desire to spend his entire career with Golden State. However, after a pair of tumultuous seasons, the departure of Klay Thompson, the front office’s inability to acquire a bonafide star to replace the Splash Brother, and Curry’s joyful Olympic trip alongside LeBron James and Kevin Durant, it wouldn’t have been unheard of for Curry’s commitment to waver. Luckily for Dub Nation, it hasn’t.
